Cargo securing in delivery vans

A delivery van is a small cargo vehicle that can be driven with a category B driving licence and has a box-like cargo space. Delivery vans have a maximum cargo weight of around 1,100 kg, which gives a good indication of the kind of lashing or blocking equipment you should use. The cargo space is usually only accessible through rear doors and/or doors at the side of the vehicle. The cargo space is generally completely or partially windowless.

The most common cargoes for delivery vans are building materials, cartons, packages, food deliveries and tools.

Methods and products for securing cargo in delivery vans

The most widely used methods for securing goods in a delivery van are lashing and blocking. Vans often only have a few lashing points that are not very strong. If this is the case – spread the lashings as evenly as you can between the lashing points and consider using blocking as the main method.

Inside lashings are often used for securing cargo in delivery vans. These can also be combined with cambuckle lashing (25–35 mm), such as 2-part lashings with hooks, as well as corner protection.
