Regulations

Every day, there are many different lifting operations carried out in various industries. Lifting is always associated with risk and there are therefore high demands on both the user and the supplier of lifting products. Although the products are approved and certified, improper handling and misapplication of the products can create dangerous situations.

Safe lifting starts with choosing the right equipment. Lifting products are strongly regulated by European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, which sets high demands on suppliers of lifting products concerning:

• Requirements on product performance

• Product marking

• Technical product documentation

• CE-marking

• Traceability of the products through the value chain

To prevent accidents and injuries associated with lifting, the Swedish Work Environment Authority (Arbetsmiljöverket) has developed regulations, which the employer is required to be aware of and to follow.

Read more about this in:

• Use of work equipment (AFS 2006:04) (Swedish)

• Use of lifting devices and lifting accessories (AFS 2006:6) (Swedish)

Equipment for safe lifting

Different lifting situations require different types of lifting equipment. Forankra has a wide range of lifting products, which includes both soft and hard lifting equipment.

Soft lifting equipment such as round slings and webbing slings, has a very flexible area of use as they can be connected around the load in different ways. Soft lifting equipment can be combined with different types of chain components.

Hard lifting equipment (Grade 80 and Grade 100) consists of lifting chain combined with different types of latch and safety hooks, connecting links and lifting eyes. Hard lifting equipment also includes various lifting devices such as lifting clamps, magnetic lifting clamps, beam trolleys and chain blocks.

Examples of common lifting situations

On construction sites, both soft lifting equipment and hard lifting equipment, or a combination of the two, are often used when lifting and handling construction material and equipment.

Soft lifting equipment has a wide range of applications. They can be connected around the goods in different ways and its soft surface layer reduces the risk of damage to the goods.

In mechanical workshops, it is mainly hard lifting equipment and various types of lifting appliances that are used in connection with shifting material to and from workstations. For example, horizontal and vertical lifting clamps can be used together with chain blocks when lifting and handling steel plates.
